The WC at 721 N Walnut Street

I have been remiss at updating certain of my readers as to the result of our lengthy and, at times, stressful WC renovation project. I apologise.

It began a few days after the completion of our beautiful new kitchen in April, when I decided that I couldn't bear the purple wallpaper and pink ceiling and woodwork in our downstairs toilet/half bathroom any longer. Perhaps it was because of the stark difference in that horrible little room in comparison to our stunning new kitchen. Or perhaps I had inhaled too much dust and actually took comfort in the mess that had taken over our home for so long at that point.

In a snap I stripped the wallpaper off the walls in the room, only to find horrible bright blue tiling from chest height down to the floor around the entire room, and above that, very badly patched dry wall. It was truly a complete mess and I was in deep regret at that point. How we couldn't see all of that junk behind the wallpaper before I will never know. Why I had the urge to begin this project in the first place, I am also at a loss.

To cut a long story short, I decided thanks to a suggestion from a friend, to just wallpaper it all back up again. I prepped the walls - sanded, cleaned and primed them and ordered some new wallpaper. I also rubbed back and painted all the woodwork white (good riddance pink!). Dad arrived a few weeks later and with much aggravation he and Jeanne managed to line the walls. As the next layer of wallpapering didn't pan out, I painted the lining paper with a neutral paint, added a new mirror and scrubbed the disgusting tiled floor until it was good enough to eat off.

Here is the result! It doesn't bear close scrutiny as the ridges of tiled walls are visible. But if you read one of the many magazines we have on offer as you sit on our toilet, you wouldn't notice :)
