Lucy had her 2 year check up at her pediatrician today. It's hard to believe that two years has gone by since we first took her into the doctor's office as a tiny newborn. Back then we were proud and nervous, eager to see how many ounces she had put on and were armed with a list if a hundred questions.

Today we were just as proud and my list of questions was so short it was enough just to have it on the brain rather than on paper. And we know she doesn't have an eating issue so we weren't surprised when we found out that she has gained weight nicely and evenly.

Lucy is tall for her age - 32 inches (80th percentile) and her weight is 27lbs (55th percentile). She's in tip-top health apart from a runny nose. She got a flu jab (regular flu....H1N1 may be available in October), and a top up meningitis jab which she was behind on. So we're all caught up on vaccinations now. Of course she wasn't happy about the jabs, but got over them very quickly. She insisted that her doll Belle had two, one in each leg, like she had.

I find it really useful to take a doll along when we see the doctor. That way we can 'act out' what is going to happen to Lucy on the doll first, for her to see what's coming next. It really works. We also had a play with her new medical set this morning before the appointment, and read about a bear going to the doctor.

For all you Mums and Dads out there with little ones...one point that the doctor made which we found interesting was about the H1N1 vaccine for swine flu. He said that for his 5 kids he planned on giving them the vaccine after it has been in circulation for a while. That's because it has been rushed through production, and when it arrives in October it won't have been through anything like the kind of rigorous testing that other vaccines for small children have been through (side effects are at this stage unknown). He told us to be vigilant about sanitizing and washing hands, and to avoid icky public places like Chucky Cheese (kids arcades), the mall indoor playground, Moonbounce etc. Flu and swine flu always comes with a crazy high fever (104-105), aches, lethargy and sever sore throat so watch out for the symptoms.

After that outing we got home and had cheese on toast at her little table which I pulled into the kitchen on Lucy's request. She sat eating away with my calculator and a receipt, calling people up on the 'phone' and talking to them about the numbers on the receipt. Nana Ealise was her favourite person to call today :)
