Schools admissions

We found out this week that there is currently no space for Lucy to attend the lovely primary school that we had put as our first choice when applying to the county earlier in the year. We have spent so much time researching and visiting local schools and are so sure that Trinity C of E in Aldwincle (next door to her current preschool) is the best for Lucy. Instead the county have given us our second choice which although a really good school, is not such a good fit for Lucy's personality in terms of that fact that is a lot bigger and will likely prove more of a big transition from the small, nurturing environments Lucy feels most comfortable in.

We are disappointed and have put Lucy straight on the waiting list for Trinity in the hope that others have been allocated a space there but no longer want it. This apparently goes on a lot and as we know that Lucy was only one of two children to not get into Trinity, we could have a good chance of a space coming up. We have also submitted an appeal in the hope that our case for Trinity suiting Lucy much better than the alternative gives the county enough reason to open up an extra space in the class for her.

The reason she lost out is because it's such a popular school, and it's not our catchment school, so we are lower down the priority list than others living much closer. We knew this was a possibility but also knew that this is a low birth year in our area of the county, and had hoped that would go in our favour. With only 24 spaces to give out at Trinity, there were 26 of us trying to get them!

Lucy is so ready to learn at school

Fingers crossed it'll all work out! I'll keep you posted.

In the mean time, the rain is still falling and we are dodging rain showers every day. Yesterday Lucy and I got soaked on the way home from the school to the car - I had been sure when leaving the house that I would be ok in just a fleece sweater, but no. I got completely wet! Luckily Lucy had all her rain gear on. The road into Aldwincle village (where the preschool is) is flooded, so we have to take the back way where the river is further from the road. Our village brook is getting so full and fast-flowing - for the first time since we have lived here. It's all quite dramatic. So much so that I had horrid dreams last night about Lucy falling in deep muddy water and not being able to find her. Nightmare.

I woke up this morning to hear her shouting and singing with happiness as usual, so that was very welcome :)
