We went out to Phoenixville which is a small town north of here and still in Chester County. We had heard good things about it being quaint and 'up and coming'. In our eyes it still has a lot of coming up to do, but we did have a lovely lunch at the Iron Hill up there, and popped into a nice gift shop afterwards to pick up a card. The lady in the shop was very impressed with Lucy who walked around close to Joe with her arms crossed, so as not to touch anything (it was jam-packed with goodies and breakables). We hadn't told her to do it, she just knew it was one of those shops. So the shopkeeper gave her a lovely little dragonfly that balances on her finger as a gift for being so well-behaved :)
We came home and sat by the fire to watch Finding Nemo. It was a windy and cold day so a fire and a cup of tea was definitely needed. Bizarre after the heat and humidity last weekend. Lucy loved Nemo despite some scary and loud bits. At times she sat right next to me and kept moving my hand in front of her eyes at the shark bits...then she would lower it carefully to check it was ok to look again. Hilarious!
Our lovely neighbour Margie left a pretty plant and card on our doorstep, wishing my a Happy Mother's Day. It's one thing getting a card from your little girl, but it's a huge pat on the back when another Mum says what a wonderful Mum you are :)
This morning we had a really nice morning at Longwood, just Lucy and I. I am covering for a volunteer colleague in her garden area this week, so I thought as it is nice today and due to rain for the next few days, we would go and run around and take care of the work. Lucy loved it and I really liked being out in the Idea Garden taking data....I got to look closely at a new area of the garden and learnt a bit about some native plants and roses too.
We ran around the outside children's garden for a while and played house in one of the 'huts' covered in vines and filled with mini Adirondack chairs. Lucy told me that we were sitting in her sitting room - "do you like the walls? I just painted them!" And then "here is my kitchen and my bedroom, and the ceilings are nice aren't they?". After that we went for lunch at the cafe and even managed to squeeze in some errands on the way home. It was one of those mornings when being a Mum to a toddler is nothing but a pleasure and makes the whole thing look easy - we both had lots of fun and had no disagreements about what was coming next or when it was time to leave.

A break before running around the tree for the one hundredth time
