For once he took his birthday off work and we have enjoyed a lovely day so far - sunshine, relaxation and some good food. We went for a walk to the park this morning and had fun on the slides and swings, then headed to The Whip, an English pub, for a slap-up lunch. Scotch egg and burgers all round, and Joe enjoyed a Guinness.
I think Joe feels that turning 40 is a bit of a reality check and that life is moving on, with his youth largely behind him in theory. But in practice he still feels young and still full of ambition and excitement about what his forties will bring. He certainly looks younger than 40, don't you think?
Here are some pics of Joe (well, Lucy) opening a gift and in the pub at lunchtime.
Thanks everyone for the cards and gifts and well wishes.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE!!
