Lucy had her first morning at West Chester Playschool today...and she loved it! No tears, no shyness, and she fitted right in as though she had been in the class forever.
We had rehearsed what was going to happen when we arrived, what her teachers names are,(Teachers Terri, Jodi and Debby), and the sorts of things she would do. It was also important to her to know what I would be doing, so when I had planned my time I told her all about it - and most importantly that I would come back to collect her and we would go home for lunch.
After I dropped Lucy off, she got straight into painting, then did some playdoh and helped to make something special for us for Valentine's Day :) They had circle time with songs and stories, and then went to play in the playground. I arrived at that time, as the teacher had suggested on her first day that I collect her early in case she was ready early. But when I got there she said "It's so nice to see you Mummy!" then went off to be with her classmates and go in the playground. I think her favourite part was the little trampoline in the playground (one of the mini ones used for workouts). A teacher was standing by and teaching Lucy to jump on it. She woke up from her nap this afternoon asking for it!
I am so proud of her for being so easy going about it all. She is an independent little soul and also very sociable. Her friend Tess is in her class too, and I am sure her presence made it all the more comfortable for Lucy. The teachers are lovely and friendly and warm with the children, yet also firm and no-nonsense which is perfect in my books.
I had a grand time - yoga class, dropping off consignment items at the kids shop, a supermarket run and the post office. I was a little nervous when in the Y as the signal on my phone was out in the workout room, so had to keep nipping out to check it! I will be a little less anxious next time, now that I know she is happy with the whole thing. Here's to some fun time for Lucy and a little 'me' time for myself!
