Today for the first time, unprompted, she said a perfect 'one, two, three'. Wow! What a surprise that was. All the counting books we read and the steps we count as we climb is paying off and it's sinking in.
Joe's parents have been staying with us since the beginning of June and say how much she has come on in those four weeks. I guess it's easier for them to notice as they have benchmarks where Joe and I are with her all of the time. They have also noticed how she is walking with less of a baby waddle now, compared to when they first arrived.
Her memory is quite remarkable too. At New Year we went to a neighbour's house for drinks and took Lucy along. They have two pet rabbits and Lucy enjoyed chasing them about and playing with them. We haven't seen them since or been to the house, even talked about the rabbits at number 110. Today I took her over to see Karin who lives there, and give her a than k you gift for looking after our house during our holiday. As Lucy walked up the front drive she said 'babbits! babbits!'. She remembered that there were small furry playthings in there and she wanted at them. Wow!
I have to keep reminding myself that Lucy is three months off turning 2 and is really still a baby in many ways. But she is such a sponge and churns all that information back out again with such ease I find it hard to remember her age. She doesn't miss a trick, is now almost impossible to deceive (when she wants Elmo on her nappy, it's really hard to secretly palm her off with Big Bird or Ernie instead) and listens and takes in so much of what we say...whether we're talking to her or not! Time to watch what we say within earshot of our Lucy.
