Lucy's first wellies!

A few days ago I bought Lucy her very first wellington boots. 'Wellies,' as we call them in England, are what Americans call rain boots and are a staple in every English child's wardrobe. I had searched in many children's stores here but had found nothing at a respectable price that would fit her. I mean, $35 for some fleece-lined snow boots that would make her look like a pink astronaut.....no thanks! So I went to a fabulous second hand children's shop in West Chester, Butterflies and Blossoms, and that is where I found the 'froggy wellies'.

Needless to say, Lucy LOVES them! She has been wearing them around the house whenever the opportunity arises, and today we went outside to try them out in the snow. She has been admiring the snow and 'talking' about it for days, but I have been reluctant to let her out there to play because 1.) she had no appropriate footwear and 2.) I don't like the cold!

The boots are a little big for her (beggars can't be choosers!) but Lucy managed to walk up and down the steps at the front of the house, and up and down the pavement/sidewalk for a good 15 minutes. She needed some help but she did pretty well as long as she wasn't actually walking in the snow (which has frozen and is really slippy!).

My brother had some wellies like this with frogs on when he was little, so I bet these will bring back some memories for him!
