What Lucy is up to

We've had lots of fun this past week doing lots of playing outside, gardening and done plenty of work around the house. Lucy loves the sunshine and likes to look out of the window and shout 'it's a sunny day!!!". She continues to grow up fast and amaze us with some of the things she says and the way she plays.

Lucy likes to wear dresses and chooses the ones she likes what she wants to wear sometimes....luckily not every day (yet). I think the dress phase is because of her fascination with princesses. And yes she is still very into Disney princesses. Luckily I have kept away from too much glitz and tackiness in that department, in the way of toys and clothing. So far we have kept it at a tasteful limit of one dress-up gown, a puzzle and a bunch of small dolls and colouring books/stickers.

I filled up her water table the other day, as the weather is getting warmer. She loves to splash in it with her little farm animals and 'wash' the hair of one of the plastic men. Her playhouse and play cars are still big hits and when she takes me in her house she says 'Look! I painted the walls and the door, isn't it nice?'. Probably in reference to the fact that we just had another room in the (real) house painted.

Imaginary play is getting more fun now too. Lucy loves to put her animals and play people in the farm, the aeroplane, the caravan or the train table, and play out scenes. Of course Mummy and Daddy join in quite often and we have some fun. She keeps asking for a castle for her people (no make-believe upside-down box will do) so I'll have to hunt for something to fulfill that brief. I LOVE castles and did as a child too, so perhaps she has the historian gene in her?

The top photo of Lucy running is a classic Lucy-pose - she's still twirling her hair while she gallops about. She loves twirling a piece of hair and can often be found doing it. Just a habit of hers and doesn't seem to relate to being tired or anything like that. Once I had to spend a while untangling the hair as it had stuck in a knot!

As ever, Lucy loves books and is often wanting to be read to or reading herself. She rarely goes to bed without taking a book or three with her and we then hear her on the monitor, reading through them and talking about the pictures. It's very sweet!

Joe has done a great job of fixing some things around the house over the past few weeks - fitted two new ceiling fans, a new light fitting in the upstairs hallway, fixed a door and a host of other things around the house that needed attention. I have got the basement straight again after having had the asbestos removed (messy job!), and done lots of clearing up in the garden. I mulched yesterday and it looks a lot better, although we are still patiently waiting for some new grass to grow in the patch that was churned up by the patio guys back in November.
