LUCY "I love you my Mama"
MUMMY "Thank you Lucy that's lovely"
LUCY "That's ok Mama"
Lucy calls me Mummy most of the time, but often at the end of a sentence she will say 'Mama'. Sometimes I get called 'Mum' which sounds hilarious coming for such a small person! She very often calls Joe 'My Daddy'.... Daddy alone does not suffice! She talks about him often through the day and will sometimes say when we are on our way home from somewhere "Go home see Daddy".
November 2009
LUCY "Pussycat, Pussycat where have you been?"
"I've been to London to visit the Queen"
MUMMY "Did you know that there is a real Queen in England?"
LUCY "Wow wee"
MUMMY "She lives in a castle"
LUCY "A castle? Maybe go there? Maybe go inside Mama?"
MUMMY "Maybe one day"
We went to get Lucy an H1N1 shot at the Chester County Health Department one day. I explained what would happen and she knew what I was talking about. But she went ahead and sat still and did a great job while the nurse pricked her arm.
MUMMY "Well done Lucy! You're a brave girl."
LUCY "Lucy's a brave girl"
MUMMY "You are Lucy"
LUCY "I'm brave Mama"
She then told everyone for the next few days about how brave she was.
December 2009
Lucy watched some of the classic film Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer which I had bought her from the supermarket. Unfortunately I hadn't seen it before and didn't realise that there is a yeti character in it!...
LUCY "I'm scared. I'm scared of the monster Mama"
MUMMY "There's no monster Lucy"
pause
LUCY "Big teeth!" (as she growls and bears her teeth)
MUMMY "But there are no monsters in the house and they can't get in. Especially when Mummy is here"
This went on for a while...at bedtime Lucy insisted we check behind the blind for monsters.
LUCY "Check behind the curtain for the monster Mama"
We checked. Nothing there. Changed her nappy.
LUCY "Check again Mama"
We checked again to see the neighbour Bob walking past the window with firewood for his porch.
LUCY "There's no monster. Just Bob. No Monster, just Bob."
Now everyone who comes to the house, she tells them about the monster.
While walking at sun down through town with Lucy in her pushchair -
LUCY "I see the sky Mummy! It's getting dark"
MUMMY "Do you see stars?"
LUCY "Not yet Mama"
MUMMY "Do you see the moon"
Pause
LUCY "Not yet Mama"
Lucy has been continuing her love of singing and now has quite a repertoire, especially since we found some new kids CDs at the library (and have been playing them almost non stop!).
Insy Winsy Spider
ABCs song - she can sing it all the way through on her own now
I'm a Little Teapot
Pussycat Pussy Cat
Grand Old Duke of York
Row Row Your Boat
and others...
Lucy has started to pet her animal toys and play with them in an imaginary way. She can often be found with a soft toy tucked under her arm or in a handbag over her shoulder. We hear her on the monitor when she's in bed sometimes saying to the animals in her bed "it's OK Tilly, it's OK. You go to sleep now Tilly. Mama's here Tilly". Tilly is her chosen name for most of her animals that even vaguely resemble a dog -Tilly being the name of Grandma and Grandpa's little Norfolk Terrier.

We think of this blog as not only a way of sharing our lives and goings on with you all, but also as an online baby record book which will keep memories of Lucy's early years alive for us and for her in the future. I'll keep adding to these Lucyisms in new posts over the coming months, as without writing them down, we will surely forget them, and how entertaining Lucy is at the moment.
