We're still managing to camp out in the kitchen and use the stove, sink and fridge which is also camping out in the centre of the room. It's amazing how much bigger the room feels without the central island which was in such an awkward place. We're so pleased not to be replacing it and leaving a nice large open floor area for a dining table.
Next week the new window for the back wall will arrive and hopefully the contractor fitting it will follow soon after. That bit of work will be the messiest and noisiest, so I intend to evacuate the kitchen altogether at that point and camp out somewhere else!
Lucy is enjoying the adventure and enjoying having Mark the contractor around to chat to and watch. It's a bit of a struggle keeping her out of the kitchen and feeding her through the day, but we're managing ok as long as she is off the ground and strapped in her chair! As of Monday the kitchen will be out of bounds pretty much all day and towards the end of the week, take aways and eating out will be the norm as the demo work on the back wall will be really messy.
I am remaining calm as possible and trying to ignore the mess - focusing on the end result helps! Joe is having nightly meetings with Mark to keep things on track and also chasing up window companies, the plumber, still thinking about which stove to go for etc. I think the kitchen project is light relief for him compared to work right now though.
Enjoy the progress photos...
Back door to garden and wall where a larger, central window is to be added
The fridge is camping out in the centre of the room where the island used to be
Existing sink and window to neighbours - to be boarded up and will become a wall of cabinetry with the stove in the centre
Pantry and fridge area where walls are being moved to allow for more room
Space created in wall for a customised dresser next to back door

Wow! They did get a lot done so far. I can't wait to see the finished product. Soon enough!
